Club Dir Tuset, Barcelona

On February 1st, the Dir Fitness Clubs opened their newest club, Dir Tuset, located on Aribau Street with Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona. Since the opening of the first of their clubs, Dir Maragall in 1979, the Catalan company now has 18 clubs spread across Barcelona (17) and Sant Cugat del Valles (1).

The gym has invested over 7 million euros, and offers sports facilities of 4.000m2 located within the emblematic galleries Drugstore David. The gym is equipped with the latest technology of the market, and is one of the first gyms lighted up almost 100% with Led technology, by Grupo MCI.

The lighting project was divided into several sections, following the technical guidelines of the client / architect / engineer:

For lighting the gym facade, the LedFloodStrip® RGB (60 Led/m) was used as a wall washer, creating a dynamic environment. The system allows the costumer to play with the di　erent shades of color depending on the needs. The lights are controlled via DMX, which allows the clients using their iPod in order to control remotely the different colour shades.

The two activity rooms and tness room, were light up with the profile LedFloodStrip ® High Power, neutral white. The prole, custom made for the project, was strategically placed in the ceiling beams of the old parking.

LedFloodStrip ® High Power is a linear lighting product within a 12.5mm x 13 mm PMMA tube, completely encapsulated in resin to o　er IP68 protection rating. In this case, the lamp has 40 LEDs /m High Power (3in1) controlled by DMX 512A.

The control of light in 2/3 of the rooms is dimmable to optimize the illumination of the same, and the rest of the lighting, 1/3, is controlled by Dali system, which lights up automatically when sunlight-is not enough on the environment.

In the changing room area, we used several of our lights to create a cozy and contemporary atmosphere.-This was divided into:

Lockers

At the top part of the lockers, the Line Grazer neutral white,was used. The client required the product to be integrated in the furniture, so the MCI team designed 2 different measures of Line Grazer, with consumption of 12 and 18 W/m.

At the bottom part was installed Linear Flex, neutral white, strength with a shock resistant polycarbonate tube. Linear Flex 60 LEDs/m SMD with a consumption of 7 W/m, is a suitable light for indoor applications and is used to provide high performance indirect lighting. It's reduced sizes, permits integration in any surface without interfering the interior designer concept.

Showers

To create a warm environment, customized Line Grazer neutral white, were used, with a consumption of 12 W/m.

Bathrooms

To illuminate this area LedFloodStrip® High Power was also used to create indirect lighting.

General lighting of the changing rooms, was reinforced with indirect lighting in the mirrors, all lighted with LedFloodStrip® High Power (80 LEDs /m) and with a consumption of 23W/m.

Finally, all the hallways and common areas of the gym were lit by the LedFloodStrip® 40 LED/m, neutral white, creating indirect light.

All these measures that Club Dir has done for efficiency and energy saving in its facilities will allow them to achieve the following benets:

1. Important savings cost on their electricity bill
2. Low maintenance costs
3. Less watts of consumption with the same efficiency
4. Reduction of CO2 to the atmosphere
5. Average life light sources up to 50,000 h/life
6. Savings in the consumption of air conditioning, because the LED emits less heat.
